Carson City Senior Center to celebrate 50th anniversary with Community Open House

Celebrate 50 wonderful years with the Carson City Senior Center at their 50th Anniversary Community Open House on Saturday, August 15, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Located at 911 Beverly Drive, this free event welcomes families, friends and neighbors for a fun-filled afternoon. Enjoy a celebratory sparkling cider toast, live music from the Capital City Strummers, bingo, and local history presentations by David and Gayle Woodruff. In this 55‑minute program, local historians David & Gayle Woodruff draw on extensive research to unravel the quirky, contradictory, and often bizarre story of one of Reno’s least‑known yet most eccentric “public” figures, revealing the strange legacy Redfield left behind. A Talk with Silver State Chautauqua: Bringing History to Life Silver State Chautauqua, a Northern Nevada nonprofit is dedicated to bringing history to life through first-person historical interpretation. On Tuesday, August 18 at 12:30 p.m. Chautauquan, Nancy Cummings-Schmidt, will be portraying Maude Frazier, Nevada educator and former member of the Nevada State Legislature, and Chautauquan, Betty Rose, will be portraying Mitsuye Endo, an American woman of Japanese descent who was unjustly incarcerated during World War II.
